What the Client Wanted
This custom pergola project started with a unique approach. The client already had a small structure covering their grill (pictured right), but the roof was so unique and tasteful that the client wanted to mimic the same shape in a pergola.
If you look closely, the grill cover has tapered wooden posts that would require a lot of custom work to duplicate in the scale of a pergola. For the custom pergola, our client requested that the tapered posts match the pergola’s posts, as well as the beams. Luckily, the client came to Dutchies to complete this project, and we were able to bring the vision to life.

What We Built for Them
Along with the custom pergola, there were a lot of other requests that we were fulfilling for this client. The pergola itself sits on custom stone piers below the posts, and the whole structure perches on a new full-color flagstone patio. The roof was made to match the grill structure, which is an open gable standing seam metal roof.
We placed various sitting walls and retaining walls around the structure for both function and aesthetic (the sitting walls used fieldstone to match the grill structure). Dutchies also built a full stone fireplace at the back of the new structure to enhance the seating and entertaining area. To tie it all together, we created a custom ceiling fan and lighting that gave it that final “homey” touch.
Overall Results
When everything was finished, Dutchies had delivered on every aspect of the project as requested by the client. We were able to replicate the grill structure into a custom pergola design that gave the entire entertainment area a cohesive feel. The client now has a more expansive outdoor space that not only looks and functions great but also adds value to the home.
